February 2, 2012:

This is the switch over week for junior high specialty courses.  Last year’s Junior High Art students should be aware that portfolios and projects will be kept until the end of June.  This is so that selected work can be included in the upcoming Student Art Exhibition at the Arts & Culture Centre this May.  More information on this will be posted in the weeks to follow.

Mini reports will be given out in all senior high art courses by the end of the week.  Although it is now too late to rework projects for this term’s report card, students are encouraged to come after school to complete all unfinished project work.

Report cards will be available last period on Wednesday, February 8th.  Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Thursday, February 9th.  I look forward to seeing parents there.

General Messages:

Students are responsible for coming to class and keeping up with their work.  If they miss class for any reason they need to arrange for a time after school to get caught up on their project work.

Marks in Art are cumulative.  Students can rework past projects or submit work they have missed at any point of the year. (With exception to junior high students who are semesterized)  It is strongly advised that students complete work in a timely manner as not to be overwhelmed at marking periods.

Students are responsible for the content in their artwork.  Any artwork that can be interpreted as featuring offensive language, drugs, alcohol, smoking, racism, sexism, or homophobia is inappropriate for school, and certainly for my class. Any work that disregards this will be confiscated and receive a mark of zero.

December 12th :

We will be continuing on with our Pen and Ink projects until after the Christmas Break.  Most students are halfway through the inking process.  If you are behind, you should arrange to come after school to make up the time.  Adding watercolour to your designs is optional.  If you want to try this, test out a section on a small piece of watercolour paper first before you add it to your project.  Watercolour paint takes careful application and patience but the results are beautiful!

January 10th:

Students are finishing up work on their Pen and Ink projects this week.  Projects must be completed and in students’ portfolios by Friday, January 20th for evaluation.  Any work unfinished at this point will receive an “incomplete” on the report card.

Students should be working on their Sketchbook Development at home and in class in the interim.  Sketchbooks will be collected on Friday, January 20th for evaluation.
