The printmaking tradition is said to have its beginnings in China in the ninth century A.D. This tradition continued with the pottery stamps of later block printing, and the delicate stencils used for fabric decoration in the Orient (screen printing). Students will explore the following visual concepts through their own art and the art of others: positive/negative space, pattern, rhythm, texture, color, space, balance, emphasis.
